Population: Average Age

Time Range: 2006-2010       Resolution: Census Block Group

Average Age represents the mean age calculated for all individuals residing in the neighborhood.

The mean is the arithmetic average of a set of values. For skewed or non-normal distributions, the mean is not necessarily the same as the median (middle value) or mode (most common).

Rationale

Demographic data is a critical component to any discussion of health equity. In talking equity, or inequity, we are comparing such things as age, race, and economic standing to determine whether there are inequities between different demographic groups.

Age is an important demographic measure for assessing the type of health issues a population may face.
